KOHELET TALKS

TOMORROW
APRIL 14

6:00 pm-supper, 6:45-8:30 program

WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE BAR/BAT MITZVAH PROCESS: A panel of kids and parents.
Coordinator: Aviva Siegel.

PANEL

Aviva Siegel and Alison Siegel
Daniel Hettleman and Jesse Hettleman
Jill Levy and Leah Savin

The next and vibrant new Kohelet Talk will be Thursday, April 14th. Please come to show your support as three of our recent Bar/Bat Mitzvahs will share their perspectives as new Jewish adults in our community. The panel of kids and parents will address what each pair has learned through the process of planning and executing their simcha.
Prospective Bar/Bat Mitzvah families, within and outside Kohelet, can gain insights and ask questions. Teacher-trainers can add in about the process of helping those interested begin their journey in Jewish adulthood. New ideas and everyone’s input about the challenges and benefits of this milestone process of Judaism will be welcomed.
Please join us and invite friends and colleagues who might be considering a Bar/Bat Mitzvah in the future, who have had one in the past, or are simply interested in this traditional yet still unique experience that is an important part of Judaism and of Kohelet.
A casual supper will be available at 6:00 pm, and the program will start promptly at 6:45 pm. Please RSVP to: joanyaffa@gmail.com.
Aviva will be providing a vegetarian entree. A donation of reimbursement is suggested but voluntary.

ANNUAL PESACH CLEANUP!
Sunday, April 17th 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

We hope to see you on Sunday morning 10-12 to participate in the annual house cleaning. Come prepared with paper towels, your favorite cleaning liquid and dig in.
Have a chore in mind and go to it. Some ideas - windows inside an out, sanctuary sconces, freshen foyer flowers and pots, upstairs windows, front garden and steps entry; garbage bags, brooms implements and gloves for outdoor and for lower patio clean-up; weeds over front fence at top of steps, upper patio chairs and table and weeds out the back gate. You should bring rags and other cleaning materials. You may also bring flowers, best would be pansies, to plant in the upper garden facing our kitchen.

You can contact Judith Cohen for an assignment if you cannot be there on Sunday.
Much to do and much help appreciated. If you cannot make it, a contribution to Kohelet will be your substitute. Click HERE to make a Pesach financial contribution.

KOHELET FAMILY SEDER
FRIDAY APRIL 22 AT 6:00 P.M.

Join your family of choice (Kohelet!) for the first night. We will have a seder and a wonderful meal together. Everyone is welcome to share their thoughts on freedom, journeys, family, etc. We all pitch in to keep the time and cost minimal. Please RSVP as soon as possible to help us plan for the crowd.

DETAILS

RSVP: Please contact Barbara with YOUR contact information.
Cost: $5.00 per adult donation requested to cover costs.
Meal planning: Please plan on bringing a kosher-for-passover vegetarian dish to share, one per adult attending. Let us know your preferred contribution to the meal as we will try to include all the traditional food and your new inventions. After you RSVP you will receive an email with details.
Event planning: Kohelet is a very participatory congregation. We get things done by doing them ourselves. Please plan to help with either the set up or the clean up.
Seder: If you would like to share from your favorite haggadah, please bring it with you. Your thoughts on the holiday and its meaning to you are especially welcome.
Children: Please bring! One of the great things about Kohelet is that kids are encouraged to speak up and share their thoughts, feelings and talents. It would be great to have someone volunteer in advance for the four questions, but be assured that all will chime in to support him or her.
Inclusive atmosphere: Kohelet is a progressive congregation with traditional origins. You are welcome to bring non-Jewish friends with you.

A TOUR OF PROVERBS/MISHLEI WITH NEIEL

Proverbs 13

He who guards his tongue preserves life;
He who opens wide his lips, it is his ruin.
Pretend to be rich and have nothing,
Profess to be poor and have much wealth.
Hope deferred sickens the heart,
But desire realized is a tree of life.
Disdain a precept and be injured,
Respect a command and be rewarded.
Be with the wise and become wise,
Consort with ignorance and come to grief.

JFS WEINBERG FOOD PANTRY SPRING FOOD DRIVE

Please help stop hunger in our community. The Jewish Family Service's Weinberg Food Pantry will begin their Passover/Easter food drive soon. Donations drop significantly in the springtime, straining the pantry's ability to feed the hungry at this time of year. All pantry clients have very low incomes, and food insecurity is a major concern in their lives.

As you begin cleaning for Passover and Spring, please remember JFS. All non-perishable food donations are welcome and encouraged. Please bring your donations to the JFS barrel that will be located at Kohelet in the hallway next to the sanctuary from March 23 to May 2. Last year, our small synagogue had one of the fullest bins of all churches and synagogues that participated. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Please contact Sharon Pincus with any questions at sharonrpincus@yahoo.com
